It is clear to see just how extensive Okuyama Sensei’s understanding of the application of his Koho Shiatsu was in relationship to the curing of various illnesses and diseases. He ran various public Shiatsu clinics throughout his life that added to his practical application of his Shiatsu in the real world that utilized a marriage between both eastern and western medical approaches he had learned from his various teachers.

At first, for every disease, hit the Tanden with a Hari (acupuncture needle). The Tanden is at a spot two Sun (old unit of length, about 6cm) below the navel. The Tanden is a place to move the Jinki (kidney energy). The Jinki controls vitality, and is the source of the 12 major Kei (organ meridians).
This Japanese medical manual was written by Hongō Masatoyo 本郷正豊 in 1709. This early manuscript was designed for use by medical students who were going to become physicians. There are chapters on obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, massage, pharmacology (giving prescriptions), moxibustion, and acupuncture.
